Psychological
and Educational Habilitation Services
Parents
and teachers do not like to see
their children struggle. This is particularly true when the child or adolescent
has a disability which makes learning new information and skills frustrating
and difficult. Cognitive, emotional, physical, communication and behavioral
disabilities are challenging but they need not lead to frustration and failure.
The psychological and educational habilitation services of the New England
Pastoral Institute provide teachers and parents with the tools necessary to
teach children with disabilities new ways to learn and communicate.
To "habilitate" is to help an individual maximally develop his or her native abilities and to acquire the necessary functional skill sets to live a happy and personally productive life. The professional staff at the New England Pastoral Institute is experienced in providing psychological and educational services to children and adolescents, their families, teachers, and other care providers. The Institute is committed to helping all individuals, regardless of their capabilities or disabilities, reach for and attain their fullest potentials.

The focus of the Institute is to care for the emotional, intellectual, relational,
and spiritual needs of children, adolescents, and their families. The goal
is to integrate safe and effective clinical interventions with an individual
or a family's spiritual tradition to promote healing and change. For those
who do not wish to bring a spiritual dimension into the therapy, traditional
forms of psychotherapy are also available. Professional services are provided
by certified and licensed psychologists, pastoral psychotherapists, mental
health counselors, and psychiatrists.
